Discreet and Comfortable Orthodontia with Invisalign
Invisalign® consists of a series of virtually invisible aligners that can safely correct misaligned teeth. At the Advanced Dental Center in Plano, TX, Dr. Christine Hopkins offers this convenient treatment as a method for straightening smiles without metal wires or brackets. With a set of custom-made aligners, you can take advantage of comfortable and discreet orthodontic care.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that uses a series of clear plastic aligners to realign your bite. Each aligner is made of a clear BPA-free plastic that is fabricated to fit the exact specifications of your smile. Like traditional braces, these aligners exert concentrated pressure to gently guide your teeth into the desired location. Invisalign can treat many of the same misalignments as metal braces, including:
- Gapped teeth
- Open bites
- Rotated teeth
When your teeth are out of alignment, you are vulnerable to a variety of oral health concerns, ranging from bruxism, or teeth grinding, to periodontal disease. By straightening your smile with Invisalign, you can protect your smile from more extensive health issues in the future.
However, not every patient is a good candidate for Invisalign. For more complex cases, Dr. Hopkins may recommend traditional orthodontic options.
Your Invisalign Treatment
During your first consultation, Dr. Hopkins will conduct a thorough examination of your bite and overall oral health. She can then sit down with you to discuss your needs and cosmetic goals in order to determine whether Invisalign is right for you. If it seems like appropriate course of action, we will first create precise 3-D images of your teeth with digital x-rays and photographs in order to map out a treatment plan. We can then send these impressions to the Invisalign lab, where skilled technicians can create the first set of aligners.
The aligners blend into your smile, allowing you to achieve similar results to traditional braces without bulky brackets and wires.
Because patients should wear each aligner about two weeks before switching it out for the next in the series, Dr. Hopkins typically recommends appointments every six weeks to check your progress and provide the next set. The exact timeline will depend on the extent of your misalignment, as well as your diligence in wearing the aligners. It is important to wear aligners for at least 20 to 22 hours every day, removing them only to eat, brush, and floss.
The Invisalign Advantage
For many patients, the main draw of Invisalign is its virtually invisible material. The aligners blend into your smile, allowing you to achieve similar results to traditional braces without bulky brackets and wires. Furthermore, the smooth plastic material is much less abrasive to the gums and surrounding tissue than traditional orthodontics, which makes for a much more comfortable treatment. Invisalign is also completely removable, allowing you to enjoy the food you love without the risk of damaging the aligners.

"I have been going to Dr. Hopkins for years now. I was looking for a general dentist but also a doctor that also had a prosthodontist background so any major work that I would require in the future could be done by the doctor who has regularly worked on me. Dr Hopkins has met and even exceeded my expectations in oral care."Julie W.
