Stay Ahead of Tooth Decay with Regular Cleanings and Exams

Dental cleanings and exams can help you prevent conditions such as tooth decay and gum disease. They can also address these issues in the earliest stages, when they are most treatable. Dr. Christine Hopkins, a member of the American College of Prosthodontists, offers exams and dental cleanings at her Plano, TX, office. During these appointments, Dr. Hopkins will search for early signs of dental problems before removing plaque and tartar from your teeth.

We recommend undergoing exams every six months to help maintain outstanding oral health.

Benefits of Cleanings and Exams

Cleanings and exams can save you time and money by preventing the need for more expensive and invasive treatments later. Around half of adults over the age of 30 in the United States have some form of gum disease, according to the Centers for Disease Control. We are here to help you avoid these issues and experience the many benefits of a healthy smile.

Patients who undergo dental cleanings and exams at our Plano dental office can benefit from:

  • A whiter smile
  • Healthy gums
  • Elimination of bad breath
  • Prevention of tooth decay
  • Early treatment of cavities
  • Preservation of teeth
  • Avoiding expensive dental treatments
  • A short and convenient treatment (usually less than one hour)

We look forward to helping you and your loved ones achieve and maintain outstanding oral health for a lifetime.

How Exams Work

During your exam, Dr. Hopkins will visually inspect your gums and teeth to search for signs of disease or decay. Digital imaging or x-rays may be taken for closer examination. Minor cavity fillings can be performed at this time, or a future appointment may be set to perform restorative treatments at a later time.

During your exam, Dr. Hopkins will:

  • Look for signs of gum disease
  • Search for cavities
  • Check the strength of fillings
  • Look for chips or cracks on the surface of your teeth
  • Check the evenness of your bite
  • Look for signs of oral cancer

If you have experienced any oral discomfort recently, notify Dr. Hopkins during your exam.

Next, your teeth will be cleaned. Dr. Hopkins or one of our skilled hygienists will use a special tool to remove plaque and tartar from your teeth. This step is an important treatment for preventing and treating gum disease. Once your teeth are clean, a gritty paste and a rotary device will be used to polish your teeth.

"I have been going to Dr. Hopkins for years now. I was looking for a general dentist but also a doctor that also had a prosthodontist background so any major work that I would require in the future could be done by the doctor who has regularly worked on me. Dr Hopkins has met and even exceeded my expectations in oral care."
