What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are a stable, durable, natural-looking solution for missing teeth. Implants consist of three distinct parts:
- The Post: Made from bio-compatible titanium, the post is designed to mimic the root structure of your natural teeth. It provides a stable foundation for the crown
- The Crown: This is the visible ceramic portion of your restoration that is designed to look, feel, and function like your natural tooth.
- The Abutment: This is the connector that attaches the visible crown of your implant to the titanium post, ensuring your implant remains firmly in place.
Here at Advanced Dental Center, Dr. Hopkins expertly designs and places customized dental implants to give your smile that flawless, natural look.

The Benefits of Dental Implants
- They seamlessly complete your smile as they are custom-made to match the color and shape of your existing teeth.
- They are strong and stable, so you can chew and speak normally without worrying.
- They make it easy to maintain good oral hygiene because you can brush and floss them just like your natural teeth.
- They help preserve your jawbone by mimicking your natural tooth roots, preventing bone loss.
- Unlike bridges or dentures, they don’t require altering your adjacent teeth, so they help you preserve more of your natural smile.
- Our dental implants have a high success rate and are known for their durability, so they can last you a lifetime with the proper care.
What To Expect From The Dental Implants Process
1. Your Initial Consultation
Dr. Hopkins will start with a thorough exam of your mouth. This includes taking X-rays and 3D imaging to assess the health of your jawbone and the positioning of your sinuses and nearby nerves. Based on these findings, she will then draw up a detailed treatment plan for your smile.
2. The Preparation Stage
If you’ve experienced any deterioration in your jaw, you might need a bone graft before moving forward with your implant procedure. We will allow a period of a few months to ensure you’ve properly healed.
3. Placing Your Implant
In this step, we will surgically place the titanium implant post securely into your jaw. It serves as an artificial root for your new tooth.
After the implant is placed, a healing period (known as osseointegration) begins. Over the course of several months, your jaw will gradually heal around the post until it is completely stable and secure.
4. Connecting Your Abutment
After osseointegration, a second minor surgery is done to place the abutment — the piece where the crown will eventually attach.
5. Seating Your Crown
The final step involves attaching the custom-made crown to the abutment. The crown is either cemented or screwed onto the abutment, ensuring that it fits with your natural teeth in color, shape, and function.
6. Follow-up and Care
Regular follow-up visits are crucial to monitor your implant, surrounding teeth, and gums and watch for signs of complications. Keeping up with good oral hygiene habits is also crucial to ensure the health and longevity of your implant.
This entire process can take a few months from start to finish. Much of that time is devoted to healing and waiting for the growth of new bone in your jaw. This lengthy process is an investment, but if done properly, your new smile can last a lifetime.

Options For Restoring More Than One Tooth
Depending on the severity of your tooth loss, you have multiple options for your above-the-gum restoration.
- For individual missing teeth, we can attach a dental crown to an abutment at the end of your implant post.
- When you need to replace a full arch or even both arches, we can combine dentures with dental implants to provide a far more secure fit. These are known as implant-supported dentures.
- We also offer full smile reconstructions for cases where you want to restore your entire smile
Frequently Asked Questions
Am I A Candidate For Dental Implants?
While dental implants are the most secure option for missing teeth, they require a healthy jawbone for placement. We will conduct a thorough examination of your jawbone’s density to determine if implants are the best solution for you. Similarly, your implant posts require healthy gum tissue to seal in place. This means that any active periodontal concerns must be addressed before placing implants.
